Gunner a Personal Protection Dog

Who We Are

About Us

Shane began his K9 training in 1996 while employed at his first police department. Where he learned to decoy for police K9 and learned basic scent detection. During this time, he also trained with a United States Customs trainer and was thankful for the opportunity. In 2002, Shane was paired with his first K9 partner, a black German Shepherd named Hektor, imported from Slovakia. K9 Hektor was an explosives detection and patrol dog. Shane trained with several federal agencies during his time with Hektor. Shane retired K9 Hektor and went to a new department in 2004. After a couple of years, he was back in K9 and was teamed up with a narcotics detection and patrol dog, K9 Kane, that had been imported from the Czech Republic. When Kane retired in 2009, Shane was paired with K9 Immo, a narcotics and patrol dog that had been imported from Germany. When K9 Immo retired in 2015, Shane was trained as an instructor and trainer and trained his fourth detection and patrol dog, K9 Cziko, who had also been imported from the Czech Republic. Shane and K9 Cziko had a great career and were able to retire together on July 31, 2021. Since 2015, Shane has also been training personal protection, sport detection, and tracking dogs and continues to train police service dogs.

Saber Working Dogs Logo

Behind our logo

Saber Working Dogs’ logo is quite unique with its many elements, each rooted in tradition.
The sword in the centerpiece is a nod to a police K9s prayer: “For I am your right arm, The sword at your side.” The sword can be on its scabbard and can do no harm, but unsheathed, it is a formidable weapon. A properly trained dog can serve that exact use.
The dogs represent a Belgian Malinois, a German Shepherd, and a Labrador Retriever. We chose these dogs because they are the most common K9 breeds in law enforcement and have shown to be loyal companions for officers. They are also typically selected for personal protection dogs due to their outstanding qualities of being family pets.

  • The Black German Shepherd signifies Shane's third Police K9 Partner, Immo. Immo was an exceptional dog that set the standard for future Police Service dogs in the department.
  • The Belgian Malinois on the left represents K9 Cziko, Shane's fourth and final K9 Partner; Cziko was the dog that Shane went through his Trainer/Instructor training. Cziko and Shane retired together.
  • The Yellow Labrador on the right represents K9 Jenny. Jenny was a single-purpose explosives detection dog. (Shane had K9 Hektor at the time.) Although Jenny was not handled or trained by Shane, she, along with her handler, was the team Shane respected and wanted to work as efficiently as they did.
